MASSACHUSETTS STATE BUDGET
Massachusetts Fiscal Year 2023 Budget
In July, Massachusetts State Legislature unanimously passed a $52.7 billion budget for Fiscal Year 2023 (FY23). This budget upholds fiscal responsibility and makes targeted investments to strengthen the state’s economic foundation, protect the most vulnerable residents and support the everyday needs of communities and families in the Commonwealth. Common Application for State Benefits and Services The budget includes an important new section directing the Executive Office of Health and Human Services and the Executive Office of Housing and Economic Development to develop and implement a common application portal for individuals to simultaneously apply for state-administered needs-based benefits and services. Child Marriage Ban This budget took the historic step of banning child marriages, a critical step in protecting children throughout the Commonwealth, banning anyone under the age of 18 from getting married under any circumstances.
